Building a stronger online presence for an independent orthopedic practice

Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder is an independent orthopedic practice led by Dr. Greg Takenishi, treating patients with shoulder, knee, sports injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions.

For patients looking for orthopedic care, the search often begins long before they contact a surgeon. They might be researching persistent shoulder pain, comparing treatments for a knee injury, or trying to understand whether surgery is their best option. Some are looking for a specialist in Sacramento, while others are searching for information about a particular procedure.

That creates an opportunity for independent practices, but also a challenge. Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder competes online with major hospital systems, regional medical groups, and national healthcare publishers. These organizations often have substantial resources, established websites, and years of accumulated search visibility.

Our work with the practice has focused on building a stronger online presence through a combination of website design, development, and ongoing SEO. That includes helping patients find the practice, making treatment information easier to navigate, and improving how the website performs in Google search.

A complete website redesign, with SEO built into the process

Our relationship with Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder has included responsibility for its website and SEO from the beginning. Around May 2026, we completed a full website redesign and restructure, bringing the site’s design, organization, and search strategy together.

The redesign gave us an opportunity to revisit how the practice presented its services and how visitors moved through the website. We developed an updated visual direction, including branding, logo, colors, and interface design, alongside a restructuring of the website’s content and navigation.

The redesigned website, from the homepage to individual treatment and condition pages, on desktop and phone.

For an orthopedic practice, the organization of information is especially important. A patient researching shoulder pain may need something different from a patient considering knee replacement alternatives. Both should be able to find information relevant to their situation, understand the available treatments, and identify the next step.

We organized the website around those needs while accounting for how Google discovers, understands, and displays medical content. The site structure, individual pages, internal links, and technical SEO were all part of the work.

We also considered how clearly the website’s information could be understood by newer AI-powered search systems. That meant keeping the content well organized and structured for machines as well as visitors, while continuing to measure performance through established search data.

Reaching patients who haven’t chosen a surgeon yet

One of the biggest opportunities in orthopedic SEO comes from searches that don’t mention a practice or physician by name.

Someone searching for Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder or Dr. Takenishi may already know who they’re looking for. But someone searching for “alternatives to knee replacement” or “shoulder surgeon sacramento” is still researching their options.

Those searches are also highly competitive. Individual treatment pages may appear alongside resources from national medical publishers, hospital systems, and specialty clinics across the country.

Our ongoing SEO work addresses both sides of that search behavior. We optimize the practice’s presence for local searches around Sacramento while developing content that can compete nationally for specific orthopedic conditions and treatments.

Rather than treating content, design, and technical SEO as separate projects, we manage them together. Our work includes keyword and search-intent research, condition and treatment content, page-level optimization, internal linking, technical improvements, and ongoing performance analysis using Google Search Console.

We look at which pages are gaining visibility, which searches are bringing visitors to the site, and where existing content can be improved. That information helps us prioritize updates and identify new opportunities as search behavior changes.

Growing Google search visibility by 117%

The practice’s Google Search Console data shows substantial growth over the reporting period.

In the latest twelve-month reporting window, October 2025 through September 2026, the website recorded approximately 784,000 Google search impressions and 7,119 clicks.

Competing for high-value orthopedic searches in Sacramento

Beyond overall traffic growth, we track how the practice appears for specific searches related to its specialties.

In an October 8, 2026 ranking check conducted from Sacramento, the practice appeared in the first position in both Google’s regular results and map listings for “shoulder surgeon sacramento” and “shoulder pain doctor sacramento.”

It also appeared third in regular results for “orthopedic surgeon sacramento” and second in map results for “acl injury doctor sacramento.” The ACL result varied between checks.

For “sports medicine sacramento,” the practice appeared first in map results and sixth in regular organic results.

These rankings cover several different ways a prospective patient might search for orthopedic care. Some are looking broadly for an orthopedic surgeon, while others have a particular condition or type of treatment in mind.

Our work focuses on the website, its content, technical performance, and local search optimization. The practice manages its own Google Business Profile, so the map positions reported here reflect the practice’s visibility rather than direct management of that profile by SLIDEFACTORY.

Reaching a national audience through treatment content

Not every valuable search is tied to Sacramento.

Patients across the country research orthopedic conditions and treatment alternatives, often before deciding whether to pursue surgery. Well-developed educational content gives a specialty practice an opportunity to appear alongside much larger healthcare organizations.

One example is the practice’s page about alternatives to knee replacement.

In September 2026, that page appeared in Google’s national results for several related searches, including:

Google search National position Estimated monthly US searches
knee surgery alternatives #4 2,400
alternatives to knee replacement #5 2,400
alternatives to knee replacement surgery #4 1,000

These rankings came from a September 2026 national search check. They illustrate how a single treatment-focused page can compete for multiple related searches, even when those searches aren’t connected to the practice’s immediate geographic market.

The page is part of a broader content strategy covering shoulder conditions, sports injuries, treatment options, and rehabilitation topics. We continue to evaluate existing pages and expand or refine content based on search performance and relevance to the practice’s specialties.

Continuing to improve the website and search performance

The website redesign was an important part of our work with Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder, but SEO has been an ongoing responsibility throughout the relationship.

We continue monitoring Google Search Console, identifying ranking opportunities, refining condition and treatment pages, improving internal links, and making technical updates as needed. This gives us a clearer picture of what is working and where the next improvements should happen.

For independent healthcare practices, a website is both a place to explain services and a way for patients to discover the practice while researching their options. Our work with Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder brings website design, content, and search optimization together as a continuing part of its online presence.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

How long does SEO take to work for an orthopedic practice?

SEO is an ongoing process, especially in competitive medical specialties. Meaningful improvements can take several months, with larger changes sometimes developing over a year or more. For Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder, our ongoing work included website improvements, treatment content, technical SEO, and regular optimization. Compared with an earlier four-month baseline, average monthly search impressions increased 117% over the following twelve months.

Can an independent orthopedic practice outrank larger hospitals?

Yes. Independent practices can compete with larger healthcare organizations for specific conditions, procedures, and local searches. In September 2026, Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder ranked fourth nationally for “knee surgery alternatives” and fifth for “alternatives to knee replacement.” In an October 8, 2026 Sacramento search check, it also ranked first for “shoulder surgeon sacramento.”

What’s the difference between branded and non-branded search traffic?

Branded searches include the name of a practice or physician. Non-branded searches focus on a condition, procedure, or specialty, such as “shoulder pain doctor sacramento” or “alternatives to knee replacement.” Both are important, but non-branded searches help a practice become visible to people who may not know its name yet.

Do you only provide SEO recommendations, or do you make changes to the website?

We handle both the strategy and implementation. For Sacramento Orthopedic Sports & Shoulder, our work has included a complete website redesign and restructure, ongoing technical SEO, content optimization, internal linking, and page-level improvements informed by Google Search Console data. We manage the website and SEO together, so recommended changes can be incorporated directly into the site.
