Cost

How much does SEO cost in Portland?

SLIDEFACTORY is an SEO company on SE Belmont, and most of our SEO clients are not in Portland proper. They are in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Sherwood, Gresham, and Vancouver, Washington. If you searched “Portland SEO company” from an office park in Washington County, you are closer to our typical client than someone downtown is.

Cost is usually the first question, so it goes first here. Most people who call us have already spent money somewhere, often on a cheap build or a bargain SEO package that went sideways, so “what does this cost” usually means “what will this cost me this time.” We do not publish flat rates for full programs, because scope varies too much between a five-page service business and a two-hundred-page ecommerce catalog for a flat rate to be honest.

Before you spend anything

What we'll talk you out of

Our habit is to answer questions on the first call, free, and to say so when someone only needs one fix. It costs us some engagements. It is also why most of our work arrives by referral, and in a market where Reddit threads about local agencies sit on page one, being fact-checkable matters more than being polished.

Some of the most useful SEO work is small, and it does not need a retainer:

An unclaimed or miscategorised Google Business Profile is a fix, not a program. We will tell you what to change and you can do it yourself in an afternoon.
Rankings that fell off a cliff after a migration usually need a redirect map, not a twelve-month contract.
Traffic down but leads steady may not be a problem worth paying for. A growing share of informational clicks now stops at Google's AI answer, and chasing them back is not always worth the money.

What Sets Our SEO Strategy Apart

As a Portland SEO company, we specialize in helping local businesses improve their visibility in search engines to reach more customers throughout the Pacific Northwest. Our Portland SEO services are designed for small businesses that want to show up on Google, appear in AI search results through our generative engine optimization service, and rank higher in local Maps listings. For AI projects beyond search, our Portland AI team builds the tools themselves.

Most of our clients are not in Portland proper. They are in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Sherwood, Gresham, and Vancouver, and we write and optimize for how the whole metro actually searches.

A great website isn’t just about how it looks. It’s about how it performs. At SLIDEFACTORY, we design and build SEO-focused websites that are fast, mobile-friendly, and fully optimized for search from the start.

SEO Optimization

Why traffic drops

Why did my traffic drop when nothing on my site changed?

The most common way a business finds us in 2026 is not “help me rank.” It is “traffic dropped and we do not know why.” Usually nothing is broken. The search results changed shape.

Here is a number from our own site, because it is the dataset we can vouch for: of the 391 keywords theslidefactory.com ranks for, 266 (68 percent) now trigger a Google AI Overview. On two-thirds of our queries, searchers see an AI-written answer before the first organic listing. When that answer covers the question, clicks that used to reach a website simply stop existing.

How we do it

The honest state of GEO

When an AI answer covers the question, clicks that used to reach a website simply stop existing. The response to this has a name, generative engine optimization, and the honest state of it is mixed. Every agency in Portland shipped a GEO page over the past year, ours included. And nobody, us included, has fully solved attribution: tying a specific AI citation to a specific customer is still an open problem across the industry.

What can be measured, we measure on ourselves. Our site is cited inside Google’s AI Overviews, including the first-listed citation on a local-SEO query that sends about 30 visits a month through one blog post, and we track referral visits arriving from ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot, and Gemini. That practice, making a business citable and then measuring what the citations do, is what our GEO service brings to client work.

Scope

What's actually in an SEO engagement here?

Four kinds of work, weighted differently depending on what the audit finds.

Technical

Crawlability, page speed, structured data, and fixing whatever the last migration broke. We are a development shop first, so template-level fixes happen in-house instead of stalling in a hand-off.

Local

Google Business Profile, consistent listings, and a review cadence that does not depend on begging. For metro service businesses this is often where the fastest gains are: a specialist practice we work on in another metro holds position one for five of its money terms.

Content

Pages that answer the questions your buyers actually ask, in plain language. No word-count filler; a page that behaves like a good sales call outranks one that behaves like a brochure.

GEO

The schema, entity, and citation work that makes your business quotable by AI systems. Included in every engagement, because search where AI answers first is not a separate channel anymore.

Timelines

How long before SEO shows results?

Honest ranges, since this is the other question every first call asks. Anyone quoting days is describing something else.

01
Weeks, not months

Technical fixes (redirects, schema, speed, crawl problems) usually show up in Search Console within a few weeks.

02
A similar window

Local visibility work on a neglected Google Business Profile can move in about the same time.

03
Two to four months

Schema and entity fixes surface quickly, but meaningful AI citation growth takes longer.

04
Months of consistent work

A competitive term worth having takes sustained content and authority work. There is no shortcut worth buying.

How we report

Reporting is scored against leads, not sessions. Session counts are inflated by bots (we have watched our own analytics claim Singapore as a top city) so we track form submissions and phone calls, and we are straight with you when a number is noise. We are a Semrush Agency Partner and run the same tooling on our own site that we run on yours.

We report monthly against the metric that matters, and if three months in nothing is moving we would rather have the uncomfortable conversation than send another dashboard. You will never need to decode a report to figure out whether it is working. The broader campaign side (paid search, content strategy, analytics) lives with our digital marketing team.

Who do you actually work with?

The recognisable name on our local book is Dick Hannah, the dealership group across the river in Vancouver. The rest of the book is startups and small companies around the metro, which is the honest shape of most Portland agencies’ client lists, whatever their websites imply.

We have been building software and websites here since 2018. The office is at 4520 SE Belmont St, Suite 300, upstairs from the Horse Brass. You will also find us around the local tech circuit: the Portland AI meetups, Portland Startup Week, and the Gresham Area Chamber of Commerce, where we are members. We mention that because this market does not hire from case studies; it hires from referrals and people it has met. Ask around about us. That is how most of our clients got here.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does SEO cost in Portland?

Scoped per engagement rather than flat-rated. Our AI visibility audit starts at $1,800 one-time; standalone GEO programs start at $2,300/month, with most between $2,300 and $4,000. Full SEO programs are quoted after a free scoping call, and if a single fix would solve your problem, we’ll say so instead of quoting a program.

Do I need a monthly SEO retainer?

Not always. Redirect problems after a migration, a miscategorized Google Business Profile, or a broken template are one-time fixes. Retainers make sense when you’re competing for rankings that need ongoing content, technical upkeep, and authority building. We’ll tell you which situation you’re in on the first call, free.

Why did my traffic drop if my rankings look fine?

Very likely AI Overviews. 68% of the keywords our own site ranks for now trigger a Google AI answer above the organic results, and when that answer covers the question, the click never happens. The fix is to become a source the AI cites. That’s generative engine optimization, and it’s included in every SEO engagement we run.

What is GEO, and is it an extra charge?

Generative engine optimization makes your business citable by AI systems (Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity) through schema, entity consistency, and answer-first content. Many agencies price it as a $500–$1,000/month add-on. We include it in every SEO engagement; standalone GEO programs start at $2,300/month.

Do you only work with businesses inside Portland?

Mostly the opposite, honestly. Our client base is metro-wide (Beaverton, Hillsboro, Sherwood, Gresham, and Vancouver, Washington) with only a handful inside city limits. Dick Hannah, the recognizable name on our local list, is across the river in Vancouver. Remote engagements work fine too.

Is my SEO problem actually a website problem?

About half the time, partly, yes. A slow template, a rebuild that shipped without redirects, or a site structure that buries the pages people search for: no amount of content work papers over those. We are a web design shop as well as an SEO one, so when the fix requires template changes or a rebuild, the same team does it. If you are weighing whether to fix or rebuild, our guide to choosing a Portland web design company covers the questions we would ask in your position, including the ones that would rule us out.
