A puzzle game with one rule

Hexagonal! gives the player one job: fill each hexagon with a single color before the timer runs out. It has a minimal board, fast rounds and a little strategy, and it was made for people who play both casual and puzzle games.

It was our first mobile game. The founders designed and built it in 2014, four years before SLIDEFACTORY opened as an agency in 2018, and released it in the App Store for iPhone and iPad that fall.

What we built

We handled the whole game ourselves: game design, interface, development in Flash, and App Store releases. Around the core puzzle we added more than 15 Game Center achievements, global leaderboards for competing with friends and other players, three extras that raise a score, and in-app purchases for upgrades and extras.

Version 1.0.3 went on sale on October 16, 2014, and the game stayed in the App Store until 2019.

A dark theme

Hexagonal! launched with a white theme. We later designed a dark version of every screen: the title screen, game board, settings, high scores, upgrades and extras. The screens on this page are from that dark design.

How players rated it

Hexagonal! averaged 4.1 out of 5 from 12 App Store ratings, with 17 written reviews from players in the United States, Canada and France. One reviewer called it “a lot harder than it looks.” Another wrote that it was great to play on both an iPhone 6 Plus and an iPad.

Game design, mobile interfaces and App Store releases are the same work we now do for clients. See our game development and mobile app development work.
