What we build on WordPress

WordPress development services we offer

Our WordPress web design services cover the theme, the templates and the editing tools, so your team can update the site as its content grows.

Custom WordPress development

What custom WordPress development means

Custom WordPress development means a theme designed and coded for your content, with editable sections in place of a page builder and only the plugins the site needs. A physician biography, a practice area, a location and an article each get fields and page modules that suit what they hold, so editors fill in content and the layout stays intact.

Our own site runs on a custom WordPress theme we built, with an ACF block for each section type.

  • Your website remains yours

Clients own their content, website and hosting, without a proprietary site builder required to keep it running.

  • Editors change content

Reusable templates and editable fields reduce the risk of breaking page layouts during ordinary updates.

  • Search is part of the build

Site structure, on-page SEO, schema, media optimization, analytics and redirects are planned before launch.

Vargas Law Office

A custom WordPress theme for a bilingual law firm

Vargas Law Office is a Milwaukee law firm serving English- and Spanish-speaking clients. We designed and developed a fully custom WordPress theme, refreshed the logo and photography, built a new site map and rewrote every page in both languages. The build took about three weeks, and we have managed the firm’s SEO since launch.

  • Paired languages. Seven practice-area pages in English and eight in Spanish. Each English page has a Spanish counterpart with its own URL and title, joined by a language switcher and hreflang tags.
  • Indexing. When Google crawled the new pages on July 14, 2026, indexed pages went from 9 to 45.
  • Search traffic. September 2026 brought 91 clicks and 5,610 impressions, against a March to May average of about 11 clicks and 530 impressions a month.

Taking over an existing WordPress site

A slow page, an abandoned plugin or a theme nobody wants to touch can make a small content update hard. We start with an audit, then repair, optimize or plan a redesign based on what it shows.

Audit the site first

We check what is broken, what slows the site down and where the security gaps are, what the editors need, and which pages already earn search traffic. A free SEO audit is a good first look at the pages worth protecting.

Then repair, maintain or rebuild

We take over updates and support after the original developer has moved on, and can keep the site current through website maintenance. When a rebuild makes more sense, a website redesign starts from your current URLs and redirects.

Process

How a WordPress project works

Web Design & Development
  1. 01

    Discovery

We talk through the business, audience, content, goals, design preferences and timeline. An existing site is reviewed for useful content and technical constraints.

  2. 02

    Structure and design

We define the site map, content types, templates and reusable page components, then develop the visual direction around them.

  3. 03

    Build and test

We implement the WordPress theme, configure the necessary plugins and test editing, responsive behavior, page speed and important integrations.

  4. 04

    Launch and handover

We handle redirects, analytics and on-page search requirements and walk the team through editing the site. Post-launch support is usually one month, with ongoing maintenance available.

FAQs

Questions about WordPress development services.

How much do WordPress development services cost?

WordPress project costs depend on design, templates, content volume, migrations, integrations and custom features. We start with a free scoping conversation and prepare a written estimate for the agreed work. Ongoing maintenance can be scoped separately.

Should we use a custom theme or a premium theme?

A premium theme can work when its templates and editing model match what the site needs. Custom WordPress theme development makes sense when the design, page types and editorial workflow need a more specific structure. We decide after reviewing the content and how the site will be maintained.

Should we build in WordPress or Webflow?

Both can support content-managed websites. The choice depends on the editing workflow, custom functionality, integrations and long-term development needs. We build in both. See Webflow and our Webflow vs WordPress comparison.

Can you take over a WordPress site another developer built?

Yes. We review the theme, plugins, hosting, site access and known issues first. We can repair functions, improve page speed, close identified security gaps and take responsibility for maintenance without automatically recommending a new site.

Will a website redesign hurt our Google rankings?

A redesign changes URLs, templates or page content in ways search engines need to process. We plan redirects, preserve important existing content and implement technical and on-page SEO as part of launch. We cannot guarantee identical rankings, but a careful migration accounts for the search traffic already on the site.

Who owns the WordPress website?

The client owns the site, its content and hosting. Our approach does not require a proprietary builder to keep the website running. We establish the required access and handover within the project.

Can you help with WordPress hosting?

Yes. Our WordPress development services can include installation and hosting setup, along with configuration and deployment. Hosting needs are reviewed with the site requirements before a platform is selected.

Do you provide maintenance after launch?

Yes. A typical build includes about one month of post-launch support. Updates, security work and performance tuning can continue after that through our website maintenance service.

Can WordPress support bilingual or multilingual websites?

Yes. Vargas Law Office runs English and Spanish versions with separate page URLs and titles, a language switcher and paired hreflang tags. The content model was built into the custom WordPress theme and site structure.

How long does a custom WordPress build take?

The timing depends on the number of templates, amount of content, integrations and approval process. The Vargas Law Office redesign took about three weeks. We define the schedule for each project during scoping rather than applying that example to every build.
